Many churches have many different ideas about baptism but what does the Bible teach?
Acts 2:38. Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
The Bible teaches us that there is one baptism.
Ephesians 4:5. One Lord, one faith, one baptism. The Biblical method of baptizing is by complete immersion, in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Any other baptism including sprinkling and pouring, is a counterfeit.
Who should be baptized ?

Because of his innocence a baby has no sin to be remitted and a baby cannot repent. A baby although having a carnal nature, cannot be termed a sinner until he is of the age to make choices between right and wrong.

Is a person lost if they are physically unable to be baptized or have not had the opportunity to be baptized ?
God holds us accountable for what we can do, but He also recognizes our limitations. It was a physical impossibility for the thief on the cross, who had confessed Jesus as His Saviour to be baptized, but Jesus assured Him that he would be have salvation.
How should a person prepare for baptism ?
(1) Believe the truth of God’s word. Learn God’s requirements. Acts 8:12. But when they believed Philip as he preached the thing concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and woman were baptized. Mark 16:16.He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved.
(2) Repent and turn away from sins. Acts 2:38. Repent and be baptized every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
(3) Be converted. At conversion God adopts us as His sons and daughters. He forgives and forgets our past sin, and miraculously transforms us into new spiritual beings. Acts 3:19. Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord,
Is baptism an urgent matter for a converted Christian ?

These biblical steps assure us that God’s converted baptized people are added to the church.
(1) All are called into one body Colossians 3:15.You are called in one body.
(2) The church is the body. Colossians 1:18. He is the head of the body, the church.
(3) We enter that body by baptism. For by one spirit we are all baptized into one body. 1 Corinthians 12:13.
Four things baptism does not do.
(1) Does not change the heart, it is a symbol that a change has already taken place.
(2) Does not necessarily make a person feel better.
(3) Does not remove temptations.
(4) Does not guarantee salvation.
