

John Huss & Jerome - Bohemia Reformation
Now known as Czech Republic, it’s time to explore the small region of Bohemia. This was home to two mighty heroes of the Reformation: John Huss and Jerome. Inspired by the work of John Wycliffe, they worked closely together throughout their lives, both continuing the work of the reform. Their legacy spread beyond their home city of Prague and lives on to this very day. WATCH VIDEO:

Trial of Huss & Jerome in Constance
The focus of the Council of Constance was threefold: firstly it was to resolve the debacle of the Papal Schism that had limped along for the better part of 40 years, secondly, it was to deal with heresies, chief of which were the heresies propagated by Wycliffe and Huss. In dealing with the Papal Schism the issue at hand was to decide which of the three rival Popes, all claiming the right to the seat of St. Peter, was the true pope and in doing so to set up a single sovereign over the church of Rome thus uniting it and bringing an end to an era of division and humiliation. John Huss & Jerome: Burned for Their Faith
Burned for their faith, Huss and Jerome approached the stake as if they were attending a wedding not a martyrdom. As the flames encircled their bodies they sang hymns, and The legacy of their faithful and heroic lives would prove to last much longer than their relatively short lives.

Bohemian wars by the General Zizska
It was hoped by some that the death of Huss and Jerome would signal an end to the work in Bohemia but this was not to be the case. The work continued and was protected during the Bohemian wars by the General Zizska. He never lost a battle and despite having a vastly smaller army they were able to repel several papal crusades.
