Math 16:13- 18.
13, Jesus asks His disciples who do men say I am? Peter answers, in verse 16, You are the Christ the son of the Living God. Jesus states in verse 18 And I also say to you that you are Peter and on this rock (Jesus) I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.
Peter himself taught that Christ was the foundation rock of the church.
1 Peter 2:5,6. You also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture, “Behold, I lay in Zion A chief cornerstone, elect, precious, and he who believes on Him (Jesus) will by no means be put to shame.”
Paul said the same ( Eph 2:19-20 ) He gave all the apostles equal place in the church “building”. Christ was the chief cornerstone. Peter was never told he was the cornerstone. He was simply one of the “stones” along with the other apostles.
Here is just a few more scriptures to show that the LORD is the ROCK and its not Peter.
1Sam 2:2. No one is Holy like our Lord, Nor is there any Rock like our God.
2Sam 22:2. The Lord is my Rock and my fortress and my deliverer.
2Sam 22:32. And who is a Rock, except our God?
Psa 18:2. The Lord is my Rock and my fortress and my deliverer.
Psa 18:31. For who is God, except the Lord? And who is a rock, except our God?
Psa 18:32. For who is God, except the Lord? And who is a Rock, except our God.
Psa 18:46. The Lord lives! Blessed by my Rock. The Lord of my salvation.
1Cor 10:4. For they drink of that spiritual Rock, and that Rock was Christ.
Eph 2:20. Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone.
