What do we do in prayer?
In prayer we talk with God; we may share our hopes, and our petitions; we may confess our faults and receive forgiveness, we may give Him thanks and offer Him praise. Prayer is the opening of the heart to God as to a friend. You may pray silently or aloud with voice.
Prayer does not bring God down to us, but brings us up to Him.
In praying we follow the example of Jesus.
Matthew 14:23 And when He had sent the multitudes away He went up the mountain by Himself to pray....
Matthew 26:36 Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to His disciples, “Sit here while I go and pray over there.”
Luke 6:12. Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.
Jesus prayed for His friends.
John 17:9,15. I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for those whom You have given Me, for they are Yours. I do not pray that You should take them out of the world but that You should keep them from the evil one.

What does it mean to pray in the name of Jesus?
In Christ’s name His followers are to stand before God. Through the value of the sacrifice made for them, they are of value in God’s sight. Because of the imputed righteousness of Christ they are accounted as precious. For Christ’s sake God the Father recognizes in them the likeness of His Son, and pardons those who fear Him. To pray in Christ’s name means that we are to accept His character, manifest His spirit, and work His works.
