Sabbath of Jehovah
Does any person of group have the right to change God's law?
Does any person of group have the right to change God's law?
We are finding in todays world that families are falling apart because they spend little time together. They have rejected the Ten Commandments and specially the 4th one that deals with the 7th Day Sabbath. We have to ask ourselves, that if we kept this time God has alotted to spend with His children would we have more time together and less broken families?
This study we will look and see if the 7th Day Sabbath still has relevant in todays world and if so should we keep God's special day?

Genesis 2:1-3 states Jehovah rested, blessed and made the Sabbath sacred at Creation after He had finished the work of creating.
God’s Word defines sin as “the transgression of the law” 1st John 3:4
The Bible also teaches that; “where there is no law there is no transgression” Romans 4:15.
So if no law existed, then there could be no sin and no one could be found guilty of sin because there would be no law to sin against. So if we have had sin from the beginning, then it stands to reason that we have had the law of God from the beginning (way before any Jews were on the scene).
1 John 3:12 not as Cain who was of the wicked one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his works were evil and his brother’s righteous.
Genesis 13:13 But the men of Sodom were exceedingly wicked and sinful against the Lord.
Now take a look at this following Bible verse: ….. Genesis 26:5 …..”Because that Abraham obeyed My voice, and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes and My laws.”…..
What did Abraham do (before Sinai)? He KEPT GOD’s COMMANDMENTS!! So how can anyone say the law of God didn’t exist before Sinai, when Abraham KEPT God’s law?

“remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy” Exodus 20:8.
To remember the Sabbath is to recall something that was established earlier.
Notice Genesis 2:3: “And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.”
Interestingly, Israel was reminded to remember the Sabbath even before they came to Mount Sinai. This was when God gave them manna to eat.
“And he [Moses] said unto them, This is that which the Lord hath said, Tomorrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the Lord: . … And Moses said, Eat that to day; for today is a sabbath unto the Lord: to day ye shall not find it [manna] in the field. Six days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which is the sabbath, in it there shall be none……And it came to pass, that there went out some of the people on the seventh day for to gather, and they found none. And the Lord said unto Moses, How long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws?” Exodus 16:23-28.
So even before they arrived at Mount Sinai, God expected the people to obey His commandments, including the Fourth Commandment.

Exodus 20:8-11 (NWT) 1961 Bible:
“Remember the Sabbath day to hold it sacred. 9 You are to render service and you must do all your work six days, 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath to Jehovah your God. You must not do any work, you nor your son nor your daughter nor your slave man nor your slave girl nor your domestic animal nor your alien resident who is inside your gates 11 For in six days Jehovah made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all everything that is in them, and he proceeded to rest on the seventh day. That is why Jehovah blessed the Sabbath day and proceeded to make it sacred.
Exodus 20:8-11 (NWT) On Line Bible:
“Remember the Sabbath day to keep it sacred. 9 You are to labour and do all your work for six days, 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath to Jehovah your God. You must not do any work, neither you nor your son nor your daughter nor your slave man nor your slave girl nor your domestic animal nor your foreign resident who is inside your settlements. 11 For in six days Jehovah made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and he began to rest on the seventh day. That is why Jehovah blessed the Sabbath day and made it sacred.

We need to remember that nowhere in the New Testament has God blessed, sanctified or made Sunday holy like He did with the 7th Day.
LORD OF THE SABBATH:
This is why the Creator, when He lived on earth claimed He was “Lord even of the Sabbath”.
Mark 2:27-28 NWT 1984. “The sabbath came into existence for the sake of man, and not man for the sake of the sabbath, hence the Son of man is Lord even of the Sabbath.”
Jesus was saying He made man first and then gave him the Sabbath for his benefit and wellbeing.
When your Witness and other Christians friend discover the truth about Jehovah they are thrilled to learn about His Sabbath. They are ready to accept Christ’s invitation, “If you love me keep my commandments.” John 14:15. But they will keep the Sabbath not because they feel they have to, but because they love the One who created it, rested, blessed and made it sacred!
SABBATH THROUGH HISTORY:
The Sabbath was instituted in Eden. It will continue throughout all eternity. (See chart below)

THE SABBATH REMAINS!
Hebrews 4:9 (NWT) “So there remains a sabbath (Gr. σαββατισμοσ) resting for the people of God”
The word σαββατισμοσ means keeping a weekly Sabbath. Hebrews 4:10-11 warn of disobedience for those who do not rest “just as God did” which in Hebrews 4:4 says “God rested on the seventh day from all his works.”
Hebrews 4:9-11. (NWT) 9 So there remains a sabbath-rest for the people of God. 10 For the man who has entered into God’s rest has also rested from his own works, just as God did from his own. 11 Let us therefore do our utmost to enter into that rest, so that no one may fall into the same pattern of disobedience.
When the Society and other Christains teach how nine of the Ten Commandments are given as Christian laws they purposely ignore this above passage and all the Bible evidence of Christians who kept the Sabbath after Christ’s death:
Luke 23:54-56. NWT. Now it was the day of Preparation, and the Sabbath was about to begin. 55 But the women who had come with him from Galʹi·lee followed along and took a look at the tomb and saw how his body was laid, 56 and they went back to prepare spices and perfumed oils. But, of course, they rested on the Sabbath according to the commandment.

Acts 13:14. NWT. However, they went on from Perga and came to Antioch in Pi·sidʹi·a. And going into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, they took a seat.
Acts 13:42-44. NWT. Now when they were going out, the people pleaded with them to speak about these matters on the following Sabbath. 43 So after the synagogue assembly was dismissed, many of the Jews and the proselytes who worshipped God followed Paul and Barʹna·bas, who, as they spoke to them, urged them to remain in the undeserved kindness of God. 44 The next Sabbath nearly all the city gathered together to hear the word of Jehovah.
Acts 16:13. NWT. On the Sabbath day we went outside the gate beside a river, where we thought there was a place of prayer, and we sat down and began speaking to the women who had assembled.
Acts 17:2. NWT. So according to Paul’s custom he went inside to them, and for three sabbaths he reasoned with them from the Scriptures,
Acts 18:4,11. NWT. He would give a talk in the synagogue every sabbath and would persuade Jews and Greeks. 11. So he stayed there for a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.

ANSWERS TO OBJECTIONS:
A. Meetings in Synagogues. On two occasions, Paul held Christian meetings on the Sabbath which were not in Jewish synagogues:
Acts 13:44. (NWT) “The next Sabbath nearly all the city gathered together to hear the word of Jehovah.”
Acts 16:13. (NWT) Held beside a river.
B. Col. 2:16-17. The sabbath days which were a “shadow of things to come” were the Jewish holy days of the ceremonial law such as the Passover etc. which pointed forward to Christ.
NOTE: The seventh-day Sabbath was different, as it was instituted before man sinned and the sacrificial system commenced.
C. Acts 15:28-29 The Sabbath was not mentioned in this list, but lying, killing, stealing etc. was not either! The Ten Commandment law was not under discussion.
Matthew 24:20 KJV. But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:
He instructed His apostles that the Sabbath should be prayerfully regarded forty years after His resurrection.
Isaiah 66:22-23. As the Sabbath was kept in Eden before the fall, so it will be observed eternally in the new earth after the restitution.
The seventh-day Sabbath was an important part of the law of God, as it came from His own mouth, and was written by His own finger upon stone at Sinai. (See Exodus 20.)

When Jesus began His work, He expressly declared that He had not come to destroy the law.
“Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets." Matthew 5:17

TEXT THAT THE WATCHTOWER AND OTHER CHRISTIANS USE TO SAY THE 7TH DAY SABBATH IS NO LONGER BINDING
Galatians 6:2 Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
Colossians 2:16 So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths,
Colossians 2:16 So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths,
Furthermore, the Watchtower Society teaches that each day of creation was a period of 7,000 years, including the seventh-day, which God blessed and sanctified (“made sacred” Genesis 2:2,3 N.W.) at that time. It is therefore contended that we are still in this Sabbath period which has extended from the time of Adam, and Witnesses are therefore taught that everyday is the Sabbath now.
These are some points to emphasis:
a. It was Christ’s custom to keep the Sabbath. Luke 4:16.
b. Jesus expected it would still be, being kept long after His death, when Jerusalem would be destroyed. Matthew 24:20.
c. Jesus claimed it was His. He had created it, and He is therefore, “Lord of the Sabbath”. Mark 2:27, 28.
d. Many years after Christ’s death, Luke a Gentile referred to the seventh-day Sabbath as, “the Sabbath according to the commandment”. Luke 23:54-56.
e. Paul said Christians should keep the -commandments of God” but not the Jewish laws like circumcision. 1 Corinthians 7: 19.
f. Paul preached to the Gentiles as well as the Jews on the Sabbath. In Antioch, Acts 13:44, “The next Sabbath nearly all the city gathered together to hear the word of Jehovah.”(NW) Note: this would have been in the city market place, not the synagogue. It was a Gentile city.
g. At Philippi, Paul acknowledged the Sabbath in a quiet place by the riverside outside the city. Acts 16:13. Why did Luke the writer of Acts mention it was the Sabbath if it had no significance to Christians?
h. Hebrews 4:9 (N.W) says, “So there remains a Sabbath resting (Gr. sabbatismos means “sabbathising” or “keeping a weekly Sabbath”) for the people of God.” Verse 10 warns of unbelief/disobedience for those who do not rest just as God did.” see verse 4. While the passage has a spiritual application it also has a very literal one dealing with disobedience.
i. If people profess to be Christians but refuse to keep God’s commandments, then the Bible says they are liars, and they do not have the truth. 1 John 2:3, 4.
j. Christians are to love God and keep His commandments. “For this is what the love of God means, that me observe his commandments, and yet his commandments are not burdensome.” 1 John 5:1
k. The Devil does not want people to keep God’s Commandments. He is violently opposed to them. In the Last Days he will war against the -remnant church- of the ages which observe the commandments of God”. Revelation12:17.
l. God has a people living in the Last Days before Christ returns who “observe the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.” Revelation 14:12, 14. One can not argue that it is impossible to observe the Commandments of God, because the Bible says His people are “observing” them!

To answer objections:
Colossians 2:16,17. The Jewish holy days such as the Passover, were called “Sabbaths” and they foreshadowed with their blood sacrifices, the ministry and life of Christ. These were no longer to be kept after Christ died. However the seventh-day Sabbath was not one of these “shadows” since it was instituted “made sacred” Genesis 2:2, NW) before man sinned, sacrifices were commenced and the Messiah was promised.
Acts 15:28, 29. The Sabbath was not included in this list. However, the Ten Commandments was obviously not under discussion since there was nothing mentioned about lying, stealing, killing etc.
Romans 10:4 “For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.”
To better understand this verse, we need to look into the original Greek word of “end.”
According to Strong’s Hebrew and Greek Dictionary, the word end in Romans 10:4 came from the Greek word, “telos,” which means, “to set out for a definite point or goal).”
Ephesians 2:15. It was the “law of commandments contained in ordinances that was abolished (see KJV). The context (Eph 2:11) shows that it was not the Ten Commandments under discussion but laws contained in ordinances dealing with Jewish decrees such as circumcision. See 1 Corinthians 7:19.
Christ expected His people to be still keeping the Sabbath in A.D. 70 when Jerusalem was destroyed.
Knowing full well that Jerusalem would be destroyed by Rome in A.D. 70, Jesus warned His followers of that time, saying, "But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day." (Matthew 24:20, emphasis added). Jesus made it clear that His people would be keeping the Sabbath even 40 years after His resurrection.

How important is keeping the Sabbath holy?
“Sin is lawlessness [transgression of the law]” (1 John 3:4).
“The wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23).

“Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps” (1 Peter 2:21).
